Laurel Park Race 6: #1 Wise Minister (ML 7/2)
If you follow me on Twitter (@chare889), you probably already know that I was very impressed with Wise Minister's maiden victory last month at Laurel Park. This son of Curlin out of a Touch Gold mare made an impressive six wide move down the stretch and once he got clear running room, he easily passed his competitors.

Today's contest is seven furlongs, which is a bit concerning. Prior to breaking his maiden, his two other races were six furlongs, a distance that one could argue was a bit too short for him. Regardless, if he doesn't get too far behind early, as has happened with him in these shorter contests in the past, he should be fine.

Hollywood Park Race 7: #6 Fanticola (ML 9/2)
Fanticola caught my eye at Del Mar this summer and has rewarded me since. In five starts, this lightly-raced three-year-old daughter of Silent Name out of a winning Tabasco Cat mare has never finished outside of the top three. Her two most recent outings, a one mile turf race at Del Mar and a six and one half furlong contest on The Downhill turf course at Santa Anita both resulted in victories. She's a versatile filly, who has won from gate to wire, but can sit off the pace, if necessary.

Today, she'll be stretching out to one and one sixteenth miles on the turf and will be spotted five pounds from the highest weighted horse (#5 Fantastic Mizz). Joseph Talamo retains the mount.
